Nobel Laureate Le Clézio Officially Joins Nanjing University

On November 4 Nanjing University President Chen Jun met with the 2008 Nobel Laureate in Literature Jean-Marie Gustave Le Clézio and his wife, and on behalf of the University, President Chen signed a formal employment agreement with Le Clézio, which means Prof. Le Clézio officially joins Nanjing University.


President Chen first briefed Prof. Le Clézio on the University’s history and its current reform on undergraduate teaching. Chen warmly welcomed and thanked Le Clézio for his joining NJU’s teaching activities.

President Chen said this is the first time in China for a Nobel Prize winner to offer formal courses to undergraduate students. He expressed the hope that Prof. Le Clézio could spend more time in Nanjing and continue his literary writing at Nanjing University.

Prof. Le Clézio said he was very proud to join Nanjing University. When he was young he dreamed of coming to China; 40 years later his dream not only came true but also became more beautiful thanks to his connection with Nanjing University.


Prof. Le Clézio praised Nanjing University for its beautiful campuses and high-quality students. He would be very glad to come to Nanjing University and discuss art and culture with its students and faculty.
