Nanjing University Celebrates 111th Anniversary

May 20 was the 111^th founding anniversary of Nanjing University. The university held a series of activities to celebrate its birthday.

The celebration included academic lectures and forums, concert, meeting and various celebrations scheduled by different schools.

On the afternoon of May 16 the academic lectures of liberal arts were given on Xianlin Campus with the theme of New Academic Trends in “Modern China Studies.”The academic lectures of science were held on Gulou Campus the next day. Three NJU professors and scientists talked about some new orientations in science and shared their research experiences with the audience.

On the evening of May 18 the “Dream on the Way” concert was held at the Great Hall on Gulou Campus. The university’s symphony orchestra, traditional instruments orchestra and chorus together gave a remarkable performance to celebrate the big day.

On May 20 a celebration meeting was held at the Great Hall to commemorate this special anniversary. Chancellor Hong Yinxing presented the Science and Technology Award of Nanjing University to Prof. Hua Zichun and Lai Yonghai. President Chen Jun delivered a speech talking about the two steps to build a world first-class university.
